The TBMP guidelines establish a shared framework of best practices for tourism-related businesses, organizations, and operators in Sitka. Developed through community collaboration, the guidelines are intended to support a visitor industry that respects local culture, protects natural resources, minimizes impacts on residents and infrastructure, and promotes safe, responsible, and meaningful visitor experiences. They outline best practices across a wide range of tourism activities, while encouraging communication, accountability, and stewardship throughout the community.

Updating Process

At the end of each tourism season, the TBMP Program Coordinator gathers feedback from member organizations, the Tourism Commission, CBS staff, Sitka Tribe of Alaska, and other community stakeholders to review and improve the TBMP Guidelines. Updated guidelines are then reviewed, finalized, and shared with members ahead of the annual pre-season meeting, where participating organizations review updates and program changes before the tourism season begins.
